PRCI and EcoSocioTech School Echo Moral Movement for Book Copyright Protection.
License Signing Becomes a Concrete Step in Building a Culture of Appreciating Authors' and Publishers' Works in the Educational Environment.
Perkumpulan Reproduksi Cipta Indonesia (PRCI) together with EcoSocioTech School (formerly Sekolah HighScope Indonesia) emphasize the importance of respecting copyright in the world of education through the signing of a secondary use license for copyrighted works.
In educational activities, books and literary works are often reproduced (secondary use) for the learning process, material duplication, and various academic activities. Through a secondary use license for the copyrights of books and/or other written works, the utilization of these works can be carried out orderly in accordance with the scope of their use, while simultaneously providing appreciation to authors, publishers, and rights holders of the works being used.
As a Collective Management Organization (LMK), PRCI is present to encourage a governance of work utilization that respects the economic rights of creators and rights holders. However, for PRCI, copyright protection does not stop at the legal and licensing aspects. Furthermore, a change in awareness and habits regarding the use of works is required, especially starting within the educational environment.
Therefore, the collaboration with EcoSocioTech (EST) School (previously named Sekolah HighScope Indonesia) is part of a Moral Movement to build a culture of appreciating works. Through this movement, teachers and students are expected not only to learn from books and literary works but also to understand that every work is born from the creativity, thought, time, and hard work of creators and publishers.
EcoSocioTech School has become one of the pioneer schools in tangibly implementing this spirit within the educational environment. The signing of this license is not positioned solely as the fulfillment of an administrative obligation, but as an integral part of learning and character building. Teachers are expected to serve as role models in using works responsibly, while students are accustomed to respecting the works that form part of their learning process.
This commitment aligns with the core values developed by EcoSocioTech School, namely Respect, Responsibility, Excellence, and Integrity. Respecting copyright becomes a practical application of these values in school life: appreciating the works of others, being responsible in their use, and building integrity throughout the learning process.
For PRCI, the steps taken by EcoSocioTech School are expected to serve as an example and a catalyst for other schools and educational institutions to begin building a more responsible culture of work usage.
Meanwhile, for EcoSocioTech School, acting as a pioneer in this movement is part of its commitment to provide an education that not only teaches students how to acquire and apply knowledge but also how to appreciate the process and the individuals who have produced that knowledge.
PRCI expresses its appreciation to EcoSocioTech School for its commitment and hopes this initiative can serve as a model for educational institutions and various other users of literary works to establish more responsible governance over work utilization. Appreciation and gratitude are also extended to the Government (Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, specifically the Directorate General of Intellectual Property) for its ongoing support of literary work protection through the issuance of Ministerial Regulation No. 15 of 2024 concerning the Management of Royalties for Secondary Use Licenses for Copyrights of Books and/or Other Written Works.
PRCI and EcoSocioTech School firmly believe that a reading culture and a culture of appreciating works must grow hand in hand. This is because knowledge that is continuously passed down will only have a future if the creators (Authors) are similarly appreciated.
